Born in Vienna, Mato Johannik graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography in California in 2003.
Working for Photographers like Greg Gorman, Steven Klein and David Lachapelle, Mato attained the know-how of celebrity photography, conceptual photo design and lighting expertise.
The wide gamut of his work spans from fine art and fashion photography, incorporating creative concepts for advertising clients, to celebrity and corporate portraiture. The inspiration for his personal work stems from his insatiable desire to shoot and create new visions on fashion and people photography.
As Co-Founder and photographic director of Peng! Magazine, between 2006 and 2010, he artdirected and curated photographer and artist productions and submissions. Between 2011 - 2013 Mato consulted and shot for the German online giant Zalando their first online marketing campaigns and print lookbooks.
VW cars comissioned Mato to photograph Singer Helene Fischer for it's 2014 campaign. For Swarovski he developed and shot several high profile campaigns. Superstar Anna Netrebko trusted Mato for an exclusive fashion mis en scene for l'Officiel Magazine. For the last 6 years Mexican retailer Capa de Ozono uses him as photographer and creativ director on 13 different campaigns.
Brands like Red Bull, Adidas, Samsung and Universal Records are among his recurring clients. Working on productions in Paris, Los Angeles and Berlin, he calls Vienna his homebase for his photographic inspiration.
His rising popularity among fine art photo collectors has promted a series of exhibitions as well as an upcoming photo book project.

As a yearly participant of the Burningman Festival since 2004, Mato has created a large body of in depth documentary work on this wonderful gathering.
